      Carlton Bassett

      Carlton R. Bassett, 69, passed away Wednesday evening, April 12, 2017 at his home surrounded by the love and support of his family. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

      Carl was born March 10, 1948 in Malone, the son of Cecil and Arlene (Jones) Bassett. After attending Franklin Accadamy in Malone, Carl joined the United States Army on May 5, 1966. During his service time he was recognized with the National Defense Service Medal, Army Rifle Marksmanhip badge, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on May 2, 1969. Carl was employeed at Malone Central Schools for 26 years as a head mechanic, retiring in 2008.

      Carl is a member of the American Legion Post #939, and the Studebaker Club of America. He enjoyed playing guitar, and his collection of classic cars.

      On June 11, 1994 Carl united into marriage with Charlotte Viau in North Bangor.

      Treasured memories will be forever in the hearts of his wife, Charlotte, and his children: Chris Bassett of West Chazy, Virgina Hines of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, Dan Bassett of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Stephen Bassett of Cadyville, Tina and her husband Bobby Patnode of Westville, Steven Smith, Bruce Waite Brian Waite, and James Waite all of North Bangor. Also surviving him are nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his siblings Sally Foley and her companion Arnold LaFlesh of Moira, Caroline White of Dickinson Center, Charlotte and her husband Russ Currier of Gouverneur, Allen and his wife Joan Bassett of North Bangor, and Donald and his wife Eleanor Bassett of Dickinson Center.

      Besides his parent he was predeceaesd by a daughter Dianna Lynn.

      A time of visitation will be held Monday, April 17 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. Services celebrating Carl's life will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment will commence in Sand Hill Cemetery, Dickinson.

      Memorial contritbutions in his honor may be made to the American Legion Post # 939, or to the Bangor Fire and Rescue.
