Reno - Robert Joseph Bassett died on January 17, 2019. Bob was the consummate family man and an accomplished professional in his field. He was born on the East coast, but his family moved to Nevada when he was a youngster. He was raised in Weed Heights and graduated from Yerington High School in 1966. He served in the Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran. After his service, Bob returned to Nevada and continued his education at the University of Nevada, Reno and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He married Janet Thompson of Weed Heights, who was also attending UNR at the time. Bob enjoyed fixing up cars, boats, and pretty much anything he could tinker with. He and Janet moved around some and eventually settled in Fallon and later Yerington to raise their three children. He worked in the power industry, both in management and generation. He worked for Sierra Pacific Power Company for many years, Redding Power Utilities, and Western 102. The latter two were his "retirement" jobs, as he couldn't stay retired long. He enjoyed staying busy. He was well liked and made many friends in all of his jobs and travels. Bob was involved in several charitable organizations and enjoyed serving his communities and spending time with his family. Road trips in the RV and home improvement projects filled most of his spare time. There wasn't anything that Bob couldn't do. His kids, friends, family, and all of their friends and family often asked for help with projects. He was always there and was happy to help. Intelligence, honesty, and generosity were three of his greatest attributes. And with those, he left his mark on this world.
Bob is survived by Janet, his wife of 46 years, their three children, Kristen Baughman (husband Brian), William Bassett, Michael Bassett (wife Alexis), and his two grandsons Arron and Ezra. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
