Alvah Leo Bassett (Picture included)
Leo Bassett, 90, of Hampton, Va, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 16, 2021. He was the son of the late Alvah L. W. and Maybelle Bassett. Leo graduated from Hampton High School in 1947 and joined the Marines in 1951, where he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following that, he worked for the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company for 43 years. He was a member of the Hampton Elks (B.P.O.E) and the Khedive Shriners. Leo was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jean Bassett, and his sister, Mary Webb "Rosie". Leo is survived by his children, Mark Bassett (Pattie) of Virginia Beach, Lynn Butler (Ron) of Hampton, Carolyn Perkins of Apex, NC, and Kenneth Bassett (Teresa) of Hampton; grandchildren, Jessica Perkins of Alexandria, Christina Perkins of Mathews, AL, Jason Bassett of Hampton, Brian Bassett (Alex) of Virginia Beach and Elizabeth Bassett of Virginia Beach. Due to Covid-19, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Animal Aid Society of Hampton. Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va 23666.
