Funeral Services for George A. Hendricks, 90, of Welcome, MN, will be 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at the Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Fairmont, MN, with interment in Welcome City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 16, at the Lakeview Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Military honors will be provided by the Welcome American Legion Post 553. George passed away on Friday morning, August 12, 2016, at the Veteran?s Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. The Lakeview Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
George Arnold Hendricks was born on April 5, 1926, in Manyaska Township, Martin County, MN. He was the son of Arnold and Sophie (Bassett) Hendricks. George attended Welcome country school.
George served his country during World War II with the Army 82nd Airborne. At one point during his service in Europe, George had the opportunity to salute General Patton. He received an honorable discharge after the war and was always very proud to have served in the military.
On January 2, 1949, George was united in marriage to Geraldine Plumhoff in Ceylon, MN. The couple moved to the family farm near Welcome where they spent their lives dedicated to farming. This union was blessed with two sons, Rodney and Steven. George and Geraldine shared sixty-seven years together.
George was a member of the Welcome American Legion Post 553 as well as being a long-time member of Fox Lake Golf Club where he enjoyed playing cards on Thursday nights. George also enjoyed playing cribbage, going hunting, and especially loved fishing.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Geraldine of Welcome, MN; son, Rodney Hendricks (friend, Becky Schmidt) of Farmington, MN; and Mary Hendricks, mother of grandchildren, William Hendricks (girlfriend, Venessa Vanderborght), and Cindi Henry (Jay); Son, Steven Hendricks of Welcome, MN; great grandchildren, Madysen Hendricks, Tyler Hendricks, Kaitlyn Hendricks, Nathan Henry, Megan Henry, Skyler Raymond, and Mara Shafiei; sister, Helen (Lowell) Fisher of Trimont, MN; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Sophie Hendricks.
