William Bassett
ELDRED - William A. "Bill" Bassett, 76, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at the Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y., following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 11, 1941, in Rochester, N.Y., he was a son of Milford P. and Lucille Oldenburg Bassett Sr.
He had graduated from Rochester High School and later from the Rochester Institute of Technology as a machinist. Bill had been employed at the Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester as a watchman and later as a machinist at the General Motors Tank Plant in Cleveland, Ohio, and in Olean at the Olean Stamping and Machining Co. and the Scott Rotary Seals Co. For many years he owned and operated the Best Chucks Milling and Machining Co. in Eldred, producing one of the best pallet nailing guns in America.
Bill was a member of the Sharon Masonic Lodge No. 598 F and A.M. of Shinglehouse, the Eldred Conservation Club, the Whitesville Rod and Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his longtime friends.
Friends may call on Thursday at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred from 5 to 7 p.m., at which time the funeral service will be held with the Rev. Lynn Gatz officiating. The Sharon Masonic Lodge No. 598 will conduct their memorial service at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
