      Mary Lee Cottrell, 1934 ? 2015

      Mary Lee Cottrell, 80, passed away peacefully on February 3rd in Houston, TX after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 21, 1934 in Gorman, TX to Carlton Bassett and Doris Hamrick Bassett.
      She grew up in De Leon, TX and graduated from De Leon High School in 1951. Mary Lee was united in marriage to Billy Jack Cottrell on August 31, 1951. They travelled and saw the U.S. during his working years in the construction business. She lived and raised her family in Deer Park, TX from 1957 ? 1971 then in Alvin, TX from 1971 ? 1993 when she and B.J. moved back to De Leon. Mary Lee was a lifelong Democrat and a good grassroots organizer. She loved to talk politics and she always held strong to her beliefs. She never met a stranger.
      Mary Lee was of the Methodist faith. She loved her entire family and was proud of all of her children and her grandchildren whom she adored. Mary Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Jack Cottrell; parents, Carlton and Doris Bassett; and brother, Richard Dee Bassett. Her loss will be mourned by her children, Corky Cottrell and wife Deborah of League City, TX, Mark Cottrell of Houston, TX and Jo Carolyn Olsovsky of Alvin, TX. Her grandchildren, Barry Gailey and wife Kandy, Chad Gailey and wife Amber, Kyle Olsovsky, Jill Olsovsky, Beau Olsovsky and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carla Jones of Abilene; aunt, Hazel Bassett of De Leon, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Norma Jean Hodges of Stephenville; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
      A visitation will be held at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home in De Leon from 6 to 8 pm Friday, February 6, 2015. Funeral services will be held at Nowlin Anders Funeral Home Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow in Downing Cemetery.
      Mary Lee's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the devoted caregivers and the entire staff at Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services in Houston. To Gail, Anna, Barbara and their staff in the Klein Unit and to Melanie, Ms. Reagan and Dr. Henderson we cannot express in words how much we appreciate all you did to help our Mother this past year. Mother had truly found a home at Seven Acres and she loved everyone and that love was given back tenfold by the staff to her.
      The family requests that donations be made to Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services in memory of Mary Lee Cottrell, 6200 N. Braeswood, Houston, Texas 77074. The family also wishes to express their thanks to the entire staff at Vitas Hospice Care for their compassion and love, especially to Isabelle.
