He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Tolbert and Verlene (Kent) Bassett. He owned and managed Tara Transmission in Jonesboro and attended Peachtree Baptist Church in Senoia. He was preceded in death by his wife Vickie Bassett. Survivors include: daughters, Stephanie Austin and her husband, Josh, of Dahlonega, GA and Cynthia Bassett of Newnan; son, Alan Bassett of Jonesboro; sister, Margaret Ann; and two grandchildren, Gavin and Harrison Austin. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015, in the chapel of Holly Hill Funeral Home. Pastor David W. Dickerson will officiate. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2014, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
