Glenna was born in Salem, Oregon, to Raymond Harris Bassett and Hessie Hope (Purdy) Bassett on February 25, 1926, and died in Adair Village, Oregon, on April 2, 2018, aged 92.
Both of her parents were lawyers (her mother graduated from Willamette Law School in 1921). After her parents? divorce when she was a young girl, she lived in Portland, Salem, Albany and Hillsboro as she moved with her mother and older brother Ramon and younger sister Sheila (Pranger).
Her parents and siblings all predeceased her. Husband Donald predeceased her in 1991. Her grandson Francisco Semadeni predeceased her.
She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1944, and attended Oregon State College and Pacific College before graduating with a Bachelor?s of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Portland in 1951. She took her nurses? training at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland.
While attending Oregon State, she met her husband, Donald Edward Carter, and they married on December 23, 1950. They had three children, Debra Kay (Enrique Semadeni) of Corvallis, Don Gray Carter (Faith) of West Linn and Jay Drew Carter (Sandra) of Springfield. At the time of her death, she had seven grandchildren, Jenny Semadeni Malcom, Noemi Semadeni, John Semadeni, Casey (Carter) Taylor, Drew Carter, Claire (Carter) Schimpf and Samuel Carter; and eight great-grandchildren.
Glenna became one of Oregon's first nurse practitioners, obtaining her certification in Women's Health Care in Newark, New Jersey, and worked for many years at the OSU Health Service before retiring in 1982.
She and her husband Don enjoyed traveling in their motor home and visiting their daughter and family in Switzerland and close family friends Goran and Maja Jovanovic in Yugoslavia. After her husband's death, Glenna continued to travel, including mission trips with her church to Guatemala and a visit to Corvallis' sister city in the Ukraine.
Glenna remained active in the community into her 80s, volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and SMART, and serving as an usher at the LaSells Stewart Center.
For many years, she walked early in the morning with a number of women friends who called themselves the Dawn Patrol and who have continued to support her in her later years.
The family wishes to thank the staffs at Stoneybrook Assisted Living, Willamette Springs and Harmony Senior Living and Lumina Hospice for the excellent care Glenna received.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the OSU Foundation and to Habitat for Humanity.
There will be a service for family and friends at a later date.
