- Robert Inglis Bassett of Lowell, MA
Mr. Robert Inglis Bassett of Lowell, MA died early Tuesday morning, June 29,
2004 at his son's home in Hampton Beach, NH.
Born in Lowell, MA on October 4, 1927, the son of Cyrus W. and Mabel (Inglis)
Bassett.
He was the husband of Margaret M. (Scanlon) Bassett with whom he had
celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on June 18, 2004.
He was a graduate of Keith Academy with the class of 1946, and attended
Merrimack College. He was a Coast Guard veteran of WWII, and a Navy Veteran of
the Korean War serving on the USS Kleinsmith APD-134.
Mr. Bassett wintered in Marathon, Florida where he was a parishioner of the
San Pablo Church in Marathon, as well as a parishioner and member of the Holy
Name Society at Sacred Heart Church in Lowell, MA. He was a member of t
American Legion in Denver, CO, the Lowell Elks, and a member of the Greater
Lowell Roadrunners. Mr. Bassett was an avid runner and finished the Boston and
New York Marathons. He was employed in his earlier years with Courier Citizen
in Lowell, and most recently at Simon & Schuster Publishing Co. in Needham, MA
until his retirement in 1996.
Besides his loving wife he is survived by two sons and their spouses, D
Robert and Marilyn (Ray) Bassett of Hayes, KS, Thomas and Carol (Spinde
Bassett of Urbana, IL, three daughters and their husbands, Martha and Thomas
Dufresne of Hollis, NH, Mary Bassett-Stanford and Daniel Stanford of Acton,
MA, Ann and Richard Bienvenue of Lowell, MA, two brothers and a sister-in-law,
LTC Cyrus W. Bassett, US Army, Ret. and Mary Bassett of Jericho, VT, Re
Joseph Bassett USAF of Corpus Christi, TX, nine grandchildren, Sarah Bassett
and Timothy Bassett both of Hayes, KS, Caitlin Dufresne and Margaret Dufresne
both of Hollis, NH, Nicholas Bassett and Rebecca Bassett both of Urbana, IL,
William Stanford, Robert Stanford, and Elizabeth Stanford all of Acton, MA, as
well as numerous close family friends.
