Robert John ?Bob? Asam (Picture included)
Asam, Robert John "Bob" Age 67, passed away peacefully Friday, May 10, 2019, at Arbor Hospice, with family by his side, following a struggle with early-onset Frontotemporal Dementia. He was born March 23, 1952 in Dearborn, MI, the son of Richard and Margaret (Duggan) Asam. Bob graduated from Allen Park High School in 1970 and attended Eastern Michigan University. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Reserves from 1971 1977. Bob worked his way up in several administrative and advertising positions, becoming Vice President and CFO of Brewer and Associates, Inc., and then part owner of the company in 1986. He followed this with a successful career in car sales, working at various metro area dealerships. In 1998 he married Kathy Bassett of Ypsilanti and she survives. He is also survived by: one daughter Susan (Jeremy) Benington of Plymouth; one son Steve (Michelle) Asam of Canton; four grandchildren, Lauren, Sean and Olivia Asam and Griffin Benington; his father Richard Asam of Allen Park; three sisters, Kathleen Dreffs of Allen Park, Geraldine (Ed) Gordon of Southgate and Mary Diebel of Allen Park; three brothers, Tom Asam of Riverview, Richard Asam of Allen Park and Jim (Lisa) Asam of Brownstown Township; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Bassett of Ypsilanti and Charlotte Greer of Wheatland, WY; his dear friend Amy Ichesco; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat Leo. He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret, his stepmother Peg Asam and his mother-in-law, Frances Bassett. Bob enjoyed sports and watching his grandchildren's games. He started a three-generation tradition of playing hockey in the family. He and Kathy enjoyed many activities, especially boating, skiing and tubing with family and friends on Belleville Lake. The family wishes to thank the U of M Big and Loud Program; Lynn Cheneweth and the ACFC Aphasia Program; First Choice Day Program; and Arbor Hospice for their enrichment and support. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Stark Funeral Service. The memorial service will be 11 am Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Washington Street, Ypsilanti, MI where the family will receive friends from 10 am until time of service.
