Ernest K. Bassett, 74
PETERSHAM - Ernest K. Bassett, 74, of 35 Old Barre Road, died Sunday in
Heywood Hospital, Gardner, after an illness.
His wife of 43 years, Marion V. (Brigham) Bassett, died last year. He leaves
three sons, Edward L. Bassett of Phillipston, Ted A. Bassett of Petersham and
Bernard A. Bassett in Arizona; two daughters, Caroline V. Mousseau of
Asheville, N.C., and Laura J. Cox of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Marion
Luella Ellsworth of Petersham; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Born in Petersham, son of Leslie W. and Marion M. (Mann) Bassett, he graduated
from Petersham High School.
A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he served in Europe.
Mr. Bassett worked at Charles G. Allen Co., a foundry in Barre; 30 years at
Barre Wool Combing Co., South Barre; and 15 years at L.S. Starrett Co., Athol.
He retired in 1986.
He attended the Orthodox Congregational Church.
No funeral service is planned. After cremation, burial will be at the family's
convenience in East Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers.
