(Bassett) Jewett, 84, of Maple Street, died early Wednesday morning, July 18, 2018 at Brigham and Women?s Hospital in Boston. Born in Athol on August 29, 1933, she was a daughter of James M. and Hazel M. (Newell) Bassett and lived in Athol all her life. In January of 1965, she married Herbert P. Jewett and they have enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Helen was employed by the Millapore Corporation in Jaffrey, NH for a number of years before retiring in 1993. She previously had worked for Orange Shoe Co., the former J.F. McElwain Co. in Athol, as well as the L. S. Starrett Co. Survivors include her loving husband, Herbert Jewett of Athol; daughters, Pamela A. Lamere of Athol and Rose Marie Karabelas of Lynn; grandsons, Spiros Karabelas and Mark Karabelas both of Lynn, Michael Lamere, Jedidiah Jewett, Joseph Thibeauit, Daniel Bowers, and Mark Clark Jr., all of Athol, and David Price of Orange; a granddaughter, Nina Marie Soares of Salem; great grandchildren, Kendra Karabelas, Sofie Karabelas, Alex Karabelas and Noah Karabelas, all of Lynn; and several nephews and nieces. Besides her parents, She was predeceased by a son, William R. Thompson, a daughter, Bonnie Lou Wheeler, and brothers, Norman Bassett and James M. Bassett Jr. There are no calling hours or services. Interment in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol, will be private. Witty?s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is directing the arrangements.
