Norman W. Bassett (1931-2016)
ATHOL - Norman W. Bassett, 85, of Yale Avenue, passed away on Sunday morning, October 16, 2016 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
He had just had his birthday Saturday and has now gone to be with his wife, Rose Bassett. Norman was born in Athol on October 15, 1931 and was a son of James M. Sr. and Hazel (Newell) Bassett. Norman was married to Rose on July 11, 1959 and enjoyed over 54 years together until her passing on March 30, 2014. Employed by Athol Industries, Inc. for several years, Norman had previously worked for Tyler Millworks in Athol for 39 years. Norman enjoyed handyman projects, woodworking and his home. Survivors include two daughters, Debra LaClair and Julie Sylvester, both of Athol; grandchildren, Jenni Slyvester, Shawn Tie, Mark Tie, Matthew Tie, Adian Tie, Alicia M. Gardner, Jeffery Gardner, and Nicole Gardner; great grandchildren, Konner Davis of Brewer, Maine, Gabriella Gardner of Hancock, Maine; a sister, Helen Jewitt of Athol; nieces Pam Jewitt and Rosemarie Jewitt, both of Athol. He will be missed and loved by all. Till we meet again, love you dad! There are no calling hours. Services and interment in Warwick Center Cemetery will be private. Norman Bassett Takes Bride
Former Local Man Weds Rose A. White
Miss Rose Adelia White of West Main St., Orange, daughter of Mrs. Rose N. White of Auburndale and Norman Walter Bassett, son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Bassett of Cortland St. were married in First Methodist Church, Orange, Rev. Decatur P. Butler officiating at the double-ring service Saturday morning at 9.
Miss Martha Nordstedt of Warwick attended as her cousin?s maid of honor and only attendant. Walter Thompson of Athol served Mr. Bassett as best man.
A luncheon for 35 guests followed in the home of the bride?s sister, Mrs. Majorie Hatch of Orange, after which the couple left on a wedding trip. Upon return, they will reside at 383 Main St., Athol.
Mrs. Bassett attended Orange schools and is employed as an inspector at the Orange Foundry. Her husband attended Athol schools and is employed as a woodworker at the Arthur Tyler Co. in Athol.
