J. Albert Bassett Sr., 82
Real Estate broker; owned offices in South Yarmouth
SOUTH YARMOUTH - J. Albert Bassett Sr., 82, a former builder and real estate
broker, died Sunday of congestive heart failure at the Mayflower Place Nursing
Center in Yarmouth. He was the husband of Bertha C. (Baker) Bassett for almost
60 years.
Born in East Harwich, Mr. Bassett was a 1937 graduate of Harwich High
School. He was a home builder in 1947 and the founder and owner of Bass River
Real Estate in South Yarmouth in 1950.
In 1973, he acquired LBJ Realty in South Yarmouth.
A resident of South Yarmouth since 1939, he was a longtime member and
trustee of Faith Baptist Chruch in Osterville and a member of the Fraternal
Lodge AF & AM in Centerville.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Joan Collins of South
Carolina, Janet Bush of Hyannis and Joy Holland of Clifton, Va.; a sister,
Emily Churchill of South Dennis; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren;
an aunt; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late J. Albert Bassett J
A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Doane, Beal and Ames
Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis. Burial will follow in Pine Grove
Cemetery, South Yarmouth.
Memorial donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 245 W.
Barnstable Road, Osterville, MA 02665.
