John W. Bassett
John Walden Bassett, 52, of Roswell, New Mexico, a Dallas native and son of Mrs. Ethel Bassett of Dallas, died Sunday in a Roswell hospital after a short illness. Bassett was a certified public accountant and head of the Roswell firm of Bassett, Johnston & Deason. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College.
Surviving also are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Max Scrimpshire of Los Angeles, California; two sons, John W. Bassett Jr. and Ben Andrews Bassett of Roswell, and a grandson.
Funeral services and burial will be held in Roswell.

Miss Evelyn Thompson And J.W. Bassett Will Be Married on June 17
The engagement of Miss Evelyn Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Thompson, to John Walden Bassett of Roswell, New Mexico, formerly of Dallas, was announced Saturday at a luncheon given by Mrs. M.C. Turner, an aunt of Mr. Bassett, at the Dallas Country Club. The wedding will take place June 17 at Mrs. Turner’s home.
Miss Thompson is a graduate of the University of Texas and is a member of Alpha Phi sorority. Mr. Bassett is the son of the late Ben H. Bassett and Mrs. Ethel Walden Bassett of Roswell, formerly of Dallas. He is a graduate of the New Mexico Military Institute and attended Dartmouth College, where he became a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
The table was laid in green and was set with crystal. Place favors were miniature musical instruments. The place cards bore drawings of musical staffs with the notes for wedding music. The centerpiece was a crystal bowl of white flowers, and white candles burned in crystal holders.

Wolcott, Miss Martha Baird, Mrs. Henry Houston Hawley, Jr., Mrs. Margaret B. Winfrey, Mrs. Walter H. Cousins, Jr., Mrs. S.W. Marshall Jr., Mrs Marvin B. Ellison, Mrs. J.L. Gofarth, Miss Nan Jones, Miss Florence Baillie, Miss Nedra Newkirk, Miss Ada Snyder, Mrs. Allen Wight, Mrs. K.E. Larsen, and Mrs. Lewis McMahan.
