- Stancel Oscar Bassett moved from Neshoba County, Mississippi to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1952. In 1953 he moved to Texas and married Marjorie Archer. He was killed in a house fire on Thanksgiving Day in 1997.

Cyril - Funeral for Marjorie Nelda Bassett, 77, Cyril, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rocky Hill Church of God, Sebastopol, Mississippi, with Donny Miller, pastor, Family Life Center, Cyril, officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Rocky Hill under the direction of Milling Funeral Home, of Sebastopol. She passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, in Lawton. Local arrangements are under direction of Cyril Funeral Home. Marjorie was born October 30, 1934, in Clyde, Texas, to George Louis and Linnie Elizabeth Watson Archer. She married Stancel "Slim" Oscar Bassett on September 16, 1955, in Abilene, Texas. He preceded her in death. They lived in Abilene for many years, where she worked for Pennysavers Antiques and Yesterdaz Antiques. After her husband's death, she moved to Cyril to be closer to her daughter. She spent her time reading her Bible and singing. She was a faithful member of Cyril Full Gospel Church. She also was a hobby gemologist and liked to shop. Marjorie was also very good at Wii bowling. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by: one daughter and her husband, Linnie and LaVoyd Davis, Cyril; one granddaughter, Christa Utley, Fort Worth, Texas; three great-grandchildren: Nihles Burnette, Zachariah Burnette, Genesis Burnette; two brothers: George and wife, Linda Archer, and Herman Archer, all of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Vera Owens, Oplin, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Nellie Utley; four brothers: Robert "Bud" Archer, Marshal Archer, Carl Archer and David Archer; and one sister, Roberta Lindsey.Viewing for Mrs. Bassett will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Cyril Funeral Home.
