Edna Mae Townsend
GREENFIELD ? Edna Mae (Bassett) Smith Therien Townsend, 80, a resident of the Franklin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 75 Haywood St., died Tuesday (5-28-91) at center.
She was born in Greenfield on May 1, 1911, the daughter of William and Clarissa (Wallace) Bassett. She was educated in Shelburne Falls and attended Arms Academy there.
She was employed for 32 years at the Greenfield Tap & Die Corp. as a product control inspector, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Greenfield for 33 years. She enjoyed sewing and made braided rugs. She also was an avid cook.
Three husbands predeceased her ? Clarence Smith, then Raymond Therien in 1955 and Herbert W. Townsend in February, to whom she was married for 34 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley L. Hubbard of Sunderland and Barbara J. Clark of Orange; one brother, Ralph Bassett of Shelburne Falls; three sisters Gertrude Jerr of Springfield, Dorothy Gilbert of Plainfield and Gladys Richardson of Shelburne; one grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
A granddaughter, Debra M. Hubbard, died in April 1988.
Private services at McCarthy Funeral Home will be conducted at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Larry Turns, pastor of the Second Congregational Church, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Green River Cemetery, Greenfield.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested memorial contributions be made to the Second Congregational Church, in care of the Reverend Larry Turns, 16 Court Square, Greenfield 01301.
