Auburn Widow Dies at age of 89 Years
Mrs. Ida Bassett Passes Away at Home on East Washington
Street - Resident of This City for 50 Years
An 89-year old Auburn widow, Mrs. Ida Bassett, of 114 East Jefferson street, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday at her home. She was in failing health for about two years.
Her death was attributed to senility and complications. She was bed-fast for the past nine days.
Mrs. Bassett, the former Ida Blair, was born April 22, 1859, at Hicksville, O. She was married to George A. Bassett, July 3, 1881, at Defiance, O. Mr. Bassett died in November of 1945.
Mrs. Bassett was a resident of Auburn for 50 years. She was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving are two sons, George Bassett of near Harlan and Ora Bassett of Clark street, Auburn; a daughter, Mrs. Cora Derrow, also of 114 East Jefferson street, 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Everett, Blair of Danville, Ill. One daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Olmstead, preceded her in death.
The body was removed to the Gerig funeral home in this city to remaing until funeral rites are conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Van W. Hinckly will officiate at the services with burial in the K. of P. cemtery at St. Joe. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
