John A. Bassett Dies in Hospital
John A. Bassett, 73, lifelong resident of Galveston and Galvest
county, died at 8:20 a.m. Monday in Galveston County Memorial Hospital
following a brief illness.
Mr. Bassett was born in Galveston on Aug. 24, 1886, the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Bassett Sr., pioneer of Galveston settler
He was a retired employee of Southern Pacific Railway and resided in La
Marque and 2406 Briar Lane.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Bassett of La Marque; a sister, Mrs.
Fred Schulte of Houston; a brother, Oliver Bassett Jr. of Beaumont, as well as
nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Broadway Funeral Home
by the Rev. Nicholas C. Antle.
Funeral services will be held at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, from the
funeral home, thence to St. Patrick’s Church for services there at 3 p.m.
Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
