Lela F. Bassett 1919-2010 (Picture included)
Lela F. Bassett passed away Jan. 8, 2010 at the age of 90. She was a resident
of Ventura for 44 years after which she moved to Nevada and resided there with
her daughter for the past two years. She was a retired cafeteria cook, having
spent many years cooking at both Cabrillo Junior High and Ventura College.
She was born Sept. 30, 1919 in Blocker, Okla. to Ivan and Gussie Davenport.
After high school she joined the Army (WACS) and served as a link train
operator in London and Paris during World War II. When the war was over she
returned to the United States on board the Queen Mary. Upon her retu

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 39
years, Roy Bassett; her son, Bobby Bassett; four sisters and two brothers. She
is survived by her daughter, Karen (Bill) Chamberlain of Pahrump, Nev.;
sister, Wanda Sue Willis of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandchildren, David
(Nicole) Bassett of Fresno, Jennifer (Jack) Spangle of Bakersfield, Kimberly
Keeler and Natalie Newcombe, both of Las Vegas; great-grandchildren, Zachary,
Emma, Sydney, Brendon and Benjamin.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Service will be at 11:30
a.m. Friday, Jan. 15 in the chapel at Charles Carroll Funeral Home, 15 Teloma
Dr., Ventura, 93003. Interment will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
