Joe M. Bassett (July 27, 1923 ? July 22, 2012)
Funeral services for Joe M. Bassett 88 of Palestine, will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel Palestine with Rev. Charles Grasty and Dr. Cecil McCloud officiating. Burial will follow in Broyles Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine. Mr. Bassett passed away Sunday at the David E. Foster Hospice Unit/PRMC. He was born July 17, 1923 to Edward H. Bassett and Lydia Bell Lewis. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Army 12th Calvary Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart and 6 Bronze Stars. He was a retired self-employed plumber and rancher and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad and also was a member of First Baptist Church Neches. He married Joyce Bassham in 1998. Mr. Bassett was preceded in death by his parents, son Kevin Bassett, two sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Lela Joyce Bassett, daughters Jana Johnson and husband Kenneth and Leisa Walling and husband John all of Palestine, sisters Francis Thompson of Spring, TX., and Margaret Stafford of Tomball, TX., seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law Kenneth Johnson, John Walling, grandsons Cody and Jason Bassett, Mark Wolfe and Glynn Poole. Condolence calls will be received 1 hour prior to service time at Bailey & Foster Palestine. Memorials may be sent to Solaris Hospice, 1521 Loop 256, Palestine, Texas, 75801.

Citation with six Battle Stars.
