Georgia B. Bassett, 79
Retired office manager; genealogist; liked animals
EAST SANDWICH - Georgia Brownell (Hammett) Bassett, 79, a resident of
East Sandwich and formerly of Dighton, died Sunday at the Royal Meganse
Nursing Home in North Falmouth after a brief illness.
She was the wife of the late Howard R. Bassett Jr.
Born in Dighton, Mrs. Bassett graduated from Taunton High School in
1941. A genealogist and author, she wrote two books detailing the history of
her family.
She was a retired office manager.
Mrs. Bassett was passionate about animals, particularly cats and
birds, and loved gardening.
She appreciated classical music, theater, film and oper
Survivors include three daughters, Meredith B. Smythe and Deborah B.
Palmer, both of Taunton, and Sarah B. Bassett of Cotiut; a son, Eric L.
Bassett of New Bedford; a sister, Hilda (Hammett) Keller of Rochester, N.Y.; a
brother, John B. Hammett of North Carolina; and five grandchildre
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Dighton
Community Church, Elm Street, Dighton.
Burial is private.
