Donald Bassett
Donald Charles Bassett, 78, of Malone, died Feb. 5, 2014 in New Milford, Connecticut.
He was born in Malone on May 9, 1935, the son of Herman and Marion Sherwin Bassett. He attended Malone schools. In January 1953 he joined the U.S. Army. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1956. Following his discharge, he was a member of the Army Reserves for eight years.
On May 28, 1955, he married Mary Jane Gonzales in Lyon Mountain, New York. She predeceased him.
Mr. Bassett was a ward supervisor at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, New York.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and his wife, Wanda, of Wingdale; a daughter, Kim Bassett of Poughkeepsie, New York; a brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Yvonne Bassett of Laurel Springs, New Jersey; and grandchildren Donald, Timothy and Kristie Bassett of Wingdale, Amber Parella of Hawley, Pennsylvania, and Beth Keenan and Michelle Palmas, both of Poughkeepsie.
Friends may call at the Spaulding Funeral Home Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery, Malone.
