Donald William Bassett
Donald William Bassett was born April 16, 1936 in Batavia, NY, the son of the late William B. and Hannah (Summers) Bassett passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center at the age of 77. His son, Donald J. Bassett and grandson, Thomas William Schwab preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Hildegarde; beloved children, Mary Schwab and Suzanne Bassett; adored grandchildren, Michael and Kathryn Bassett, Jamie Nagle and Brook Hanlin, Joseph Schwab and Daniel Schwab; sister, Carin (Roger) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Debbie Bassett; along with 3 great-granddaughters, several nieces and nephews. Donald was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp proudly serving his country. He retired from NYSEG after 34 years of dedicated service. After retiring he worked at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center for 16 years. In the 70's and early 80's, Donald was a paramedic instructor. At his request there will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Friday, June 28, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY. The Reverend Christopher Linsler will celebrate Donald's Mass. Interment will follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery where Mr. Bassett will be accorded Military Honors by the John T. Eaton American Legion Post #746, Corning, NY, Ritual Team. The Family will provide their own flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA, Route #352, Elmira, NY 14903 in his memory. Thomas William Schwab
Thomas William Schwab, age 26, son of Mary Elizabeth (Bassett) Schwab and Thomas C. Schwab, went to be with his Savior unexpectedly on Sunday, May 16, 2010. His paternal grandparents, Robert and Marie Schwab of Mansfield, PA and uncle D. J. Bassett of Sullivanville, NY predeceased Thomas. He is survived by his grandparents, Donald and Hildegarde Bassett of Sullivanville, NY; sister, Suzanne Bassett and fiancé, Keith Youngs; niece, Bianca Youngs; brothers, Joseph and Daniel Schwab; daughter, Nakendra and her mother, Jessica; sister, Rebecca Caccia and her husband, Chris; nephews, Ryan, Derick and Evan; niece, Hailey; cousins, Katie and Michael Bassett; aunts, Debra Bassett and Linda Farrer; uncles, John and Frank Schwab of Pennsylvania; special friends, Tommy, Margie Luna and Tom Jennings of Horseheads. Tommy was a member of St. Mary Our Mother Church parish of Horseheads, a graduate of Horseheads High School and served in the US Army. Tommy was an avid Buffalo Sabres fan and enjoyed all types of music from the Beatles to Radiohead and Tom Petty. Tommy will be sadly and deeply missed by all those who knew him. A gathering of his family and friends will take place at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira/Southport, NY on Friday, June 4, 2010, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest privately at the convenience of his family in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery, Horseheads, NY.
