      Dorothy Keirstead
      Dorothy L. Keirstead, 87, of Villa Drive, Hurley, formerly of LaJolla, California, died Wednesday, September 7, 1994 in Hurley.
      The former Dorothy L. Bassett was born January 23, 1907 in Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Kregelo) Bassett. She attended Indianapolis public schools and graduated from the Shortridge High School in Indianapolis with the class of 1925. She then attended Butler University in Indianapolis for two years.
      She moved to LaJolla, residing there until April, 1992, when she moved to the Presque Isle-Mercer area.
      She was active in the American Red Cross and did volunteer work as a gray lady at the San Diego California Naval Hospital. An accomplished artist, she presented her paintings at the LaJolla Art Gallery. She enjoyed traveling, swimming, walking and knitting.
      She was married to Gerald L. Canfiel. He preceded her in death in 1987.
      She was then married to Col. Ernest W. Keirstead, United States Air Force, Retired. He preceded her in death.
      Survivors include a son, John Bassett Canfield of Livermore, California; a daughter, Jacqueline Canfield Beekman of Preque Isle; five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
      Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter D. Bassett.
      There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Private family graveside services were held at the Presque Isle Cemetery in Presque Isle, Wisconsin.
      Engstrom Funeral Home, Hurley, was in charge of arrangements.
