John Bassett, 80, Former Merchant
Had Been Choir Soloist in Boro Past 20 Years
John Bassett, 80, for the last 20 years a soloist in the choir of St. Phillip's Episcopal Church, 11th Ave. and 80th St., died yesterday at his home, 8405 10th Ave., after a short illness.
For a number of years, Mr. Basset was engaged in the tea and coffee business. He and his wife, Elizabeth, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary last August.
Mr. Bassett was born in England and was a member of Day Star Lodge, F.&A.M. He is survived by his widow and five children, Mrs. Catherine J. Sedgman, Everett, Rowland, Mordecai and Haydn; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held Tuesday evening in the Harris Funeral Chapel, 5012 4th Ave. Burial will be in Evergreens Cemetery.
