Helen M. Bassett
Mrs. Helen M. Bassett - 1628 Turwill Lane, died Sunday morning, June 15, 1997.
Mrs. Bassett was born November 25, 1913 in Holly, MI, the daughter of James
and Lydia Covert. She received a Teaching Certificate, after which she earned
a Masters Degree at the University of Michigan. She taught public school in
Hastings, and for 30 years in the Kalamazoo Public School System. She was a
member of the Westwood United Methodist church, the Retired Teachers
Association, and a former member of the Etude Society. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Reid A. Bassett; and by a brother, Harold Hayner.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Jane Mayne of Kalamazoo; and a grandson, Joseph
Reid Mayne and wife, Elizabeth of Auburn Hills, MI. Private interment services
will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at
11:00 o'clock Wednesday at the Westwood United Methodist Church, 538 Nichols
Rd., with the Rev. Mr. Eric S. Beck officiating. In lieu of flowers the family
suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Westwood United Methodist
