NORWICH - Eugene E. Bassette, beloved husband of Norma (Darling) Bassette and son of the late Eugene A. and Noemi (Donais) Bassette, was born in Norwich, CT April 19, 1928.
He attended St. Mary's Parochial School, Norwich Free Academy, and served in the Asian Theater as a member of the U.S Navy during World War II. He was a quartermaster in the submarine service and became a member of the United States Submarine Veterans and was inducted into their prestigious "Holland Club" on June 7, 2014.
He and his wife Norma were married October 27, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church of Norwichtown. They were communicants of Sacred Heart Church of Taftville for many years. They had just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. After moving to Brooklyn, CT they are currently communicants of Our Lady of La Salette.
He was employed for many years at the former Plastic Wire and Cable Corp. in Jewett City. After leaving PWC, he worked as an accounts representative in the printing industry, retiring in 1991.
Gene was active in civic and professional organizations last serving on the Lisbon School Building Committee for the latest addition to Lisbon School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gary and his wife Laurie of Brooklyn, CT, E. Andre and his wife Carol of Fitzwilliam, NH, one daughter, Lisa of Winchester, NH, three granddaughters, Kristin, Jordan, and Erica as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one grandson, Marcus.
Gene was the last member of his family of three brothers - Raymond, Robert, and twin Antoine, and three sisters, Agnes Barnes, Claire Boyle, and Adele Inch.
Guillot Funeral Home of Taftville is in charge of funeral arrangements. There are no calling hours. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at 10 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Church in Taftville meeting directly at the church with entombment in St. Mary's Mausoleum of Norwich
