Ian T. Alexander
CONCORD – Ian T. Alexander, 80, formerly of Chelmsford, Maynard, and
Watertown, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005. He was the husband of the late
Millicent (Bassett) Alexander.
He was born in Inverness, Scotland on Dec. 6, 1924, the son of the late John
T. and Anne (Ross) Alexander. Mr. Alexander immigrated to Boston in 1930 and
graduated from Watertown High School in 1943. He later received a bachelor’s
degree in business administration from Boston University.
Mr. Alexander served in the U.S. Army in the 872nd Field Artillery Battalion
of the 66th Infantry Division in the European Theater during World War II. He
served as the entertainment specialist before being honorably discharged in
1946.
He was employed for more than 25 years in the design and application of
material handling and storage systems in the New England area before retiring
to Stuart, Fla., in 1985.
Mr. Alexander served briefly as a selectman in Maynard and was a DeMolay
advisor and member of the Fraternity Lodge of Masons in Newtonville. He was
also active in the church, serving as deacon, a member of the choir and youth
director. He also performed in local musical and theater productions and often
sang at weddings and other special occasions.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Jack Alexander of
Chelmsford, Cathy Jorry of Vista, Calif., Bonnie Mann of Acton, Dale (Davis)
Alexander of West Newbury, Lynn Pammett of Groton, and Heather Pache of
Sackets Harbor, N.Y., 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildre
He was also the father of the late Scott Alexander.
A private memorial service was held on Feb. 12 in Maynard.
