Leona M. Bassett, 64 Owned Medfield Beauty Salon
Leona M. (Sawyer) Bassett, a longtime Medfield resident who owned a beauty
salon there, died Thursday in Newton-Wellesly Hospital. She was 64. Mrs.
Bassett was born in Natick and later lived in Framingham. She was educated in
the Medfield public school system and graduated from the Peabody School of
Norwood in 1950. She owned Leona's Beauty Salon in Medfield from 1974 to 1993,
and for a short time was a cafeteria worker in Medfield's Dale Street a
Wheelock schools. Mrs. Bassett was a member of St. Edward's Church Choir and a
former dean mother of Cub Scout pack 113. She leaves her husband, Elton R. of
Medfield; two sons, Stephen E. of Norfolk and Scott M. of Medfield; a
daughter, Stephanie A. of Medfield; a sister, Annie J. Sawyer of Medfield; and
three grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be said tomorrow at 10 a.m. in St.
Edward the Confessor Church in Medfield. Burial will be in Vine Lake Cemetery
in Medfield.
