      Obituary, Miss Ella Mary Bassett
Miss Ella Mary Bassett, highly esteemed resident of this village for many years, died Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock in the Barber Convalescent home at Fly Creek, where she had been a patient exactly one year.
A native of Connecticut, she was born November 19, 1855. Her parents were the Rev. Edward B. Bassett and Mary (Taylor) Bassett. Her father, a Congregational pastor, carried on his ministry in parishes in Connecticut and Central New York until coming to Cooperstown on his retirement. The family home had been at No. 21 Church street for many years, and after the death of both parents, Miss Bassett was accustomed to spend her winters in Florida until her own health became impaired about three years ago.
Nearest survivors are cousins, including, Edward Shove, Milford Center; Clarence Bunn, South Hartwick; Mrs. W. Stone, Whitesboro; Miss Grace Swift, Brooklyn; Herbert Greetn, Utica; and John Beach, Canajoharie.
Miss Bassett was popular with the young people of the community and particularly for those of the Church street neighborhood where her home was a favorite rendezvous. She taught a class in the Presbyterian church school for several years, and at her retirement the Ella M. Bassett prize fund was established there honoring her service by her late friend, Mrs. Charlotte Prentiss Browning.
Funeral services will be held from the First Presbyterian church, of which she was a member, Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Her pastor, the Rev. Arthur W. Mielke, will officiate.
Interment will be in the family plot in Lakewood cemetery.
