Veteran; Harwich native; liked fishing, country music
HYANNIS - Donald E. Bassett, 73, longtime Hyannis resident, died Monday at his
home. He was the husband of the late Helen (Aguiar) Bassett, who died July 9.
Mr. Bassett was born in Harwich and attended Harwich schools. He served in the
Army during World War II and worked for the Barnstable Water Co. for 30 years,
retiring in 1988. He lived in Hyannis since the 1940s. Mr. Bassett loved
fishing and country western music. Surviving are two sons, Donald E. Bassett
Jr. of Hyannis and Robert E. Bassett of Milwuakee, Ore.; a sister, Euni
Henry of Hyannis; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and many nieces a
nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Firday in the John-Lawrence
Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Rd. (Route 28), Marstons Mills. Visiting hours
will be 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be
