William E. Bessette, Sr., age 89 years, of Clintonville, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Pine Manor Health Care Center, Embarrass.
William Edward Bessette was born June 5, 1918 in Bear Creek to the late Howard and Agnes (Fenton) Bessette. He was united in marriage in 1945 to Margaret L. Keller in Bear Creek. The couple resided in New London and then moved to Bear Creek. In 1975 he married Wanita C. Berres-Merten in Waupaca. Bill worked for many years as a welder and as an automotive mechanic. He was employed for 17 years at American Plywood in New London and retired in the mid 1970's. Bill was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. His interests included fishing, playing dice and cards, especially sheepshead. Bill enjoyed polka music, visiting with his friends, and the companionship of his poodle, Fluffy.
Survivors include five children; William (Diana) Bessette, Jr. of Clintonville, James (Sharon) Bessette of New London, Charles (Sally) Bessette of Bear Creek, Margaret (Steve) Smith of Beaver Dam, and Vernon (Lori) Bessette of Clintonville. There are 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Four sisters; Elaine Laux of Appleton, Agnes Bessette of Van Buren, AR, Sr. Marion Bessette of Hot Springs, AR, and Madeline Bessette of Eau Claire. Three brothers; Arthur (Myrna) Bessette of Clintonville, Thomas (Marian) Bessette of Clintonville, and Joseph (Betty) Bessette of Sheboygan. Bill is further survived by many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by both of his wives, Wanita - 1988 and Margaret - 2007, a son, Carl, a brother, Terrance, and two sisters, Romona Peissig & Sr. Mary Bernard.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. Fr. Paul Vanden Hogen will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of mass at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, is assisting the family.
