Martha L. Bassett
NORFOLK - Martha Leah Bassett, 91, of the 2400 block of Hemlock St., passed
away Dec. 10, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Merton F.
Bassett, and her son, Norman F. Bassett. She had lived in Norfolk since 1920
and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and retired after 26 years with
the Union Mission. Mrs. Bassett is survived by her son, Ronald Lee Bassett of
Cleveland, Ohio; and her daughter-in-law, Isla Lea Bassett of Norfolk; a host
of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. The family
will receive friends in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, today
from 7 to 9 p.m. A. graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in
Woodlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Fred Braswell. In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations may be made to Hope Haven, 3000 North Landing Road,
Virginia Beach, VA 23456. The family will be at 739 Muskogee Ave., Norfolk, VA
23509.
