Ethel (Bertholf) Bassett - SPOKANE
Visitation for Ethel (Bertholf) Bassett, 98, will be Monday from noon to 5
p.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Memorial service will be Tuesday at 11
a.m. at the funeral home, with burial at 1:30 p.m. at Goldenrod Cemetery in
Tekoa, Wash. Mrs. Bassett, who was born in Tekoa, died Aug. 28. After
graduating from Tekoa High School in 1923, she moved to Spokane to atte
business school and worked in an insurance office for eight years. She then
worked for C.B. Demille General Insurance Agency as office manager and
underwriter for 23 years. She and her husband, Donald Bassett, owned a home at
Priest Lake and wintered in Arizona for many years. Mrs. Bassett enjoyed
fishing and in 1974 won a trophy for the largest Dolly Varden (16.5 lbs)
caught in Priest Lake. She also enjoyed playing bridge, handcrafts and
knitting. In 1995 she knitted more than 250 pairs of mittens for distribution
to needy children through the Sunset Hill Baptist Church and SCAN. Her husband
preceded her in death. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Alice Bertholf of
Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made
to Sunset Hill Baptist Church.
