Mordecai Starr, fifth child of Jesse and Amy Starr, was born July 9, 1835 at Whitby, Canada. He was a very independent, self-reliant boy and man. He was very upright and was never afraid to take the part of the weak and helpless. He was a real Christian, a Baptist. He was married to Miss Weatherby at Hickory Grove, Jones County, Iowa about 1856. He moved to California about 1860, where he lived until his death about 1900.
