  Notes	William Bassett, son of Eli and Rhoda (Kersh) Bassett, was born about 1794 in Barnwell, South Carolina. He died in Aug 1886 in Anthony, Marion County, Florida, aged 92 years. He married Aurora Towler, daughter of William Robert and Sarah (Bryan) Towler, about 1834 in Jasper, Hamilton County, Florida. She was born 25 Nov 1811 in North Carolina. She died 31 Oct 1879 in Marion County, Florida. They are both buried in Anthony, Marion County, Florida. Sarah (Bryan) Towler was the daughter of William Bryan and Sarah Singleterry. From Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia, Vol VIII, page 31, "William Bassett was born in Barnwell District, S.C., in 1800 a son of Eli and Rhoda Bassett. His parents moved to McIntosh County, Ga., while he was yet a child, and from there they moved to Appling County in 1819 where the family appears in the 1820 census. About 1830 they moved to Hamilton County, Fla. William Bassett married Aurora Towler about 1834; she was born in Bladen County, N.C., Nov. 25 1811, a daughter of William R. Towler and wife Sarah Bryan Towler and grand daughter of William Bryan, R.S., Her parents moved to Wayne Co, Ga, with the Bryans, thence to Ware County where she grew up; and later, after 1830 moving to Hamilton Co., Fla., with the Bryans. Born to William and Aurora Bassett were nine children. William Bassett served in the Indian War as a private in Lieutenant William Day's detachment, 13th Regiment, Florida Militia, June 15th to Oct 15th 1836.
