Dr. Robert B. Denis, PhD 1921-2015 Longmeadow - At the age of 94 after a lifetime full of love, happiness, adventures, and hard work, Dr. Robert (Bob) Bassett Denis, PhD, of Longmeadow, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday November 3rd, 2015 with his family at his side. Born in the Hungry Hill neighborhood of Springfield to the late Albert and Irene (Bassett) Denis, he was a graduate of High School of Commerce. Bob served his country honorably as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Cavalry during WWII; at the end of the war he led the construction of a school in the Philippines, which brought him great satisfaction. He went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst where he met his loving wife, Louise (Brisset) Denis. Bob was also a proud member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity during his time in college and served as the district grand master for several years thereafter. Bob furthered his education, receiving his MBA from Harvard Business School in Boston, and his PhD from American University in Washington, D.C. Bob spent his career as a Professor of Accounting and Business Administration, primarily at the University of Connecticut and then at the University of Hartford, spending several semesters teaching in France. Earlier in his career, he was an adjunct professor at both Western New England College and American International College. Later in his career Bob acted as a consultant for various companies in New England. Bob was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow. He loved traveling with his wife and enjoyed playing golf. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family throughout his life, playing games together, cheering them on at various events, and loving them with all his heart. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Louise (Brisset) Denis of Longmeadow; his three children, Marlee Denis Mooney (Thomas) of West Hartford, CT and their children, Emilee Scott (James) and Caroline Hammel (Christopher), Robert B. Denis, Jr. (Holly) of Longmeadow and his children, Taylor Shea (Christopher) and Lauren Talbot (Sean), his step-children, Crystal and Tiffany Phaneuf, and Diane Denis Aye (Scott) of Longmeadow and their children, Katherine Kadar (Andrew), Second Lieutenant Christine Aye, USAF-NC, and William Aye, a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst; two great-granddaughters, Vivian Scott and Emma Shea. His Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Tuesday November 10th at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 519 Longmeadow St. in Longmeadow. Burial will be private for the family in Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley. There are no calling hours.
