    • Frederick was a gold miner in Washington. He was accidentally shot and instantly killed while hunting near his home at Republic, Washington. He was engaged in carrying mail from Aneas to Republic. He and his farm hand
had stopped at noon at the west fork of the San Poil river to feed the horses. Each man took his gun for a short hunt while the horses were eating. When Mr. Bassett's companion returned he found him dead with the entire of his head blown away. According to the evidence of Sheriff Morgan, Harry Crounse and John accompanied him to the scene, Fred had built a fire and sat on a rock a short distance from it when his gun was accidentally discharged.
Frederick left Martin County at the age of eighteen. He had been engaged in mining, farming and as a mail carrier and deputy game warden.
