Clayton C. Bessette
Mr. Clayton C. Bessette, age 73, died Wednesday morning, July 1, 1992 in the Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in East Fairfield, June 2, 1919, son of Frances (Lareau) Bessette and the late Carlton Bessette.
He was a transportation clerk for the Central Vermont Railway for over 45 years, retiring May 31, 1979. He served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post #1, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert Glidden Post #758, the Central Vermont Veterans Association, United Transportation Union and a member of the Masonic Order with Franklin Lodge #4, F&AM.
January 1, 1940 he married Arcella Shepard, and besides his wife he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Frances Bessette, his six children and their spouses, Susan and Thomas Salmon of Burlington, Carlton and Betty Bessette of Swanton, Fran and Larry Bouchard of St. Albans, Molly and Glenn ?Bud? Grismore of St. Albans, Judy and William Walsh of St. Albans, Harold and Shirley Bessette, of Sheldon; four sisters and their husbands, Mildred and Gerald Rocheleau of St. Albans, Connie Bliss of St. Blans, Rhode and Clarence LaRocque of Swanton, Marion and Wayne Young of Sheldon; a brother and his wife, James and Rita Bessette of Sheldon; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Dr. Donna Hosmer of St. Albans. He was predeceased by his father, Carlton Bessette May 17, 1989 and by his brother Harold E. Bessette, who was killed in action during World War II.
A Masonic funeral service will be conducted for family members by Franklin Lo9dge #4 F&AM Friday morning in the Brady & Levesque Chapel. Frienda and relatives are invited to visiting hours from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St. Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478. Arrangements are by the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
