Roger Bessette (1935-2016) (Picture included)
PITTSFIELD Roger O. Bessette, 80, of 97 Morningview Drive died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center. A longtime Pittsfield resident, he was born in Abercorn, Quebec City, Canada on September 14, 1935, the son of the late Adolph and Mary Rose Chauvin Bessette. He was educated in Vermont schools and served in the United States Army. He married his wife, the late Theresa Beauregard Bessette on July 18, 1960. She died on January 16, 2014. A hard worker, Mr. Bessette was employed for over 30 years at General Electric in Pittsfield as a mechanic. He also worked as a logger in Vermont and as a master welder. He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Dalton and of the former St. Francis Church in Pittsfield. He was also a member of the Italian-American Club, the Operating Engineers, GE Quarter Century Club and GE Pensioners Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He leaves a son; Michael J. Bessette and his wife, Erin Flynn of Jackson Hole, WY and a daughter; Lori Schoonmaker and her husband, Bill of Vergennes, VT, a sister, Germaine Doonan and her husband, Gerald of Cowansville, Quebec, Canada, seven grandchildren; Julie A. Schoonmaker, Jaclyn R. Schoonmaker, Jason R. Szklasz, Justin E. Szklasz, Kye T. Bessette, Tosh O. Bessette and Ashe J. Bessette, five great-grandchildren; Sophia R. Schoonmaker, Marcellus Szklasz, Schyler Grace, Gavin Szklasz and Gregory Grace. He also leaves his nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by a brother, the late Germain Bessette. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Roger O. Bessette of Pittsfield who died January 5, 2016 will be held Saturday at 9:00a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Dalton with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Pittsfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Roger may be made to the St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
