      The New Food Store
The Patriot joins with a large number of friends and well-wishers in congratulating Wade E. Bassett upon the successful opening of his “Greater Food Store”.
Mr. Bassett’s formal opening of his new store was carried through the last three days of last week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and to say that the public responded generously to his invitation to visit his store and avail themselves of opportunity to purchase groceries, vegetables and fruits is to put it mildly. Patronage sixty percent, above normal level was accorded Mr. Bassett.
Mr. Bassett’s “Greater” store has been created by the addition of all that space formerly occupied by Wayne E. Bidwell as an electrical shop and display room. This shop adjoined Mr. Bassett’s store and the two stores have been made into one by cutting of a great arch between. In the doing of this work nearly the entire length of the dividing partition was removed and a steel beam was inserted at the top of the arch.
Occupying the center front space of the two-store space has been placed a fruit and vegetable display counter and display bins constantly played upon by a spray arrangement which keeps the display continuously fresh.
Baskets conveniently placed, may be used by the customer in a “wait-upon-yourself” plan, the arrangement of the packaged goods, as well as the fruit, vegetables and bread, being of that handy nature to invite just such an arrangement as the “serve-yourself” idea.
This expansion of Mr. Bassett’s is one that marks a well-deserved success in the business life of this city. In the year during which he has conducted his independent store Mr. Bassett has won a place in the community as an able energetic merchandising and it is safe to predict that the green and white store at 16-17 South Second street will continued to prosper under Mr. Bassett’s able proprietorship.
