Bonnie Lee (Bassett) Friel
LAUREL, Md. - Bonnie Lee (Bassett) Friel, 63, of Laurel, died peacefully at home Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, surrounded by her loving family after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 9, 1942, and raised in Greenfield, Mass., she was a loving wife for 41 years to David J. Friel, formerly of Brattleboro, Vt., and devoted mother to Alanna Friel Turner of Olney, and Eric Friel of Anacortes, Washl.
She also leaves behind a son-in-law, Steve, along with three grandchildren, Ashlyn Turner and Jack Turner and Brooke Bonnie, whose arrival is expected in March 2006.
Other surviving family members include a sister, Sandie Facey and her husband Warrey of Leyden, Mass.; brother, Clarence (Snooky) Bassett Jr. and his wife Sallie of Tennessee; and a brother, Ronald (Punky) Bassett and his wife Barbara of Greenfield; and 23 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother, Alberta (Northway) Bassett; her father, Calrence Sr.; and a sisters, Beverly Duprey.
As the wife of naval officer and commercial airline pilot, she ran the family home and provided care and support to her husband as well as many naval families. Their home sites included Florida, New Jersey, Maine, California, Japan, Newfoundland and Maryland.
Mrs. Friel will be deeply missed. She was a creator. She expressed her love and devotion to her family through her celebrated entertaining skills and her knitting, cooking, sewing, needlework, gardening and interior decoration. She loved pets and animials, and more than once rescued injured animals.
Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildre, Ashlyn and Jack.
Mrs. Friel will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery on Nov. 30.
