Norma V. Bessette
BURLINGTON — Norma V. Bessette, 76, of Burlington,died Sunday, June 10, 2001, in Fletcher Allen Health Care, surrounded by herfamily. She was born in Burlington, Nov. 24, 1924, the daughter of the lateStephen and Hazel (Bleau) Shortsleeves. She was married Oct. 20, 1945 in theCathedral of the Immaculate Conception to Carl W. Bessette. She had beenemployed with the Burlington School system for many years, retiring in 1980.She was a member of the Cathedral Parish. A devoted wife, mother, andgrandmother, Norma lived her life for her family. She enjoyed spending timewith her family, going on picnics, playing cards, sewing, crafts, andpicking wildflowers. She is survived by her husband, Carl of Burlington; sixchildren, Sandra Barnes and her husband, David, of South Burlington, ElaineDurand and her husband, Peter, of Scarborough,.Maine; Debra Izzo and herhusband Anthony of Colchester; Carl “Bill Bessette and Courtney, ofBurlington; Laurie Lewis and her husband, Timothy, of Burlington, and BrianBessette of Burlington; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;four sisters; two brothers; and many nieces and nephews. She was alsopredeceased by three brothers. Her family would like to express a veryspecial thank you to Dr. and Mrs. Timothy Terrien, the staff andhousekeeper, Jeannette, on Baird 4 at the hospital; the staff of BurlingtonHealth and Rehabilitation, and the Visiting Nurse Association for all theirlove and care that they have given to us. Funeral services will beWednesday, June 13 at 11 a.m. in the Ready Funeral Chapel, 934 North Avenue,with interment to follow in Lake View Cemetery. For those who wish,donations in her memory may be made to the Vermont Lung Association, 30Farrell St., South Burlington, Vt. 05403. Visiting hours will be Tuesdayfrom 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. ‘Into Thy Hands, O Lord.’\
