Died
In Macon county on the 11th inst. Mr. James Bassett, in the 36th years of his age. Mr. B connected himself with the Baptist church in 1833, since which time he had been one of its most active and consistent members. As a man he was frank and upright in all his dealings – as a neighbor he was kind and obliging – as a friend, truthful and sincere – as a husband and father he was devotedly attached to his family. Although his attack was sudden, and the nature of his disease such as to preclude all hope of recovery he bore it with the utmost calmness. Perceiving his end drew near, shortly after he was attacked, he took an affectionate leave of his family. This he died with a calmness and composure which seemed to say that his treasure was on high, and that he would commit all who were most dear to him on this earth, in that God who is faithful to all his promises.
