      Mary E. Bassett
      SUNBURY - Mary E. "Marystelle" Bassett, 83, formerly of Klinesgrove, RR1 Sunbury, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Grandview Health Home, Danville.
      She was born in Danville, the daughter of the late Carl F. Sr. and Abigail (Blue) Fryling. In 1949, she married Clifford D. Bassett, of Klinesgrove, RR1 Sunbury, who survives.
      Mrs. Bassett was a graduate of Danville High School.
      She worked during World War II for the Tennessee Valley Authority in Chattanooga, Tenn., where she was involved in mapmaking for the war effort.
      Mrs. Bassett assisted her husband in managing Bassett Electric Co. and was active with him in charitable work associated with Geisinger Medical Center. Also, for many years, she was the secretary for Upper Augusta Township, Northumberland County.
      She was an ardent seamstress and knitter, and was a deeply committed foster parent. She and her husband opened their home to scores of foster children over the years. They were also host parents to two Mexican students, who were classmates of their daughter, Gail Marie, at St. Cyril's Academy in Danville.
      Mrs. Bassett was a member of Klinesgrove United Methodist Church, RR1 Sunbury.
      Surviving, in addition to her husband, are one son, Lawrence F. Bassett and his wife Karen Choate-Bassett of Williamsport; three daughters, Gail Marie and her husband Gerald McGlinn of Sunbury, Jacquelyn and her husband John Shaibley of Danville, and Nora Ann and her husband Bruce Feger of Potts Grove; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl F. Jr. and his wife Emily Fryling of Danville; and two nephews.
      She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene.
      There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Klinesgrove United Methodist Chuch, RR1 Sunbury, by the Rev. Susan D. Jamison.
      A private burial of Mrs. Bassett's ashes will be arranged by her family.
      Gifts in Mrs. Bassett's memory may be made to Klinesgrove United Methodist Church via Nancy Shipe, RR1, Sunbury, PA 17801.
      Funeral arrangements were by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
