Leo Bassette, ex-athlete
Leo A. Bassette, 51, of Walpole Valley Road, a former Ludlow, Mass., athlete and a carpenter for Custom Wood Products here, died Tuesday at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.
He was also the head caretaker at the Peter Berg estate in Walpole.
Born in Ware, Mass., he lived in the Indian Orchard and Ludlow, areas for 42 years. He moved here nine years ago.
He was a former member of the Ludlow Fish and Game Club, and had played semi-professional soccer for the Gremio Lusitano Club of Ludlow.
He leaves his wife, the former Margaret D. Flebotte; a daughter, Leslie Ann Bassette of Bellows Falls, Vt., and a sister, Florence Houle of Indian Orchard.
His son, Dale A., died in 1965.
The funeral will be Saturday morning at Ratell Funeral Home of Indian Orchard and St. John the Baptist Church in Ludlow, with burial at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Indian Orchard. Calling hours will be on Friday afternoon and evening.
