William C. Bassette 1931 – 2012
AGAWAM William C. Bassette, 81, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at home. Born in Ludlow, son of the late William and Clemence (Premo) Bassette, he grew up in Indian Orchard and was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School. He lived in Ludlow for many years before moving to Agawam. Bill was a master carpenter doing much beautiful work for so many people. He worked at Hamilton Standard for thirty-five years before his retirement. He was well known in Ludlow as the Popcorn Man for more than forty years. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Parish in Ludlow and also attended St. John the Evangelist Church in Agawam. Bill was a lifelong, avid Red Sox, Patriots and Celtic Fan. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a dedicated and loving family man his whole life. His first wife, Arminda (Varo) Bassette died on July 16, 1988. He leaves his second wife, Dorothy M. (Davis) Dutton Bassette, a son and his wife, Matthew and Diane Bassette of Agawam, two daughters, Karen Petrolati and her husband David of Ludlow, Kelly Bassette of Holyoke, his extended family, Francis Dutton and his wife Debra of Monson, Deborah Turner and her partner Randy of Missouri, Michael Dutton and his fiance Lisa of Ludlow, Lawrence Dutton and his wife Mary Jean of Springfield, and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Friday at 1pm at the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service from 11am 1pm.
