Bessette, 76, of Baldwinville Rd. died in Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital, Gardner, after an illness. He leaves three brothers, James Bessette of Gardner, Norman Bessette and Leo Bessette both of Fitchburg; four sisters, Evelyn Rounds of Sparks, Nevada, Janet Jenness of San Jose, Calif., Irene McGowen of Lynn and Esther Helie of Winchendon; nieces and nephews. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Louis and Elizabeth (Bushman) Bessette. He worked as as a paper maker at Crocker Burbank Co. until he joined the Army, serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Service Star and five Overseas Bars. The funeral will be held tomorrow from Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours at the funeral home are 7 to 9 p.m. today.
