Mrs. Violette B. Bassett, 76, Dies after Lengthy Illness
Mrs. Violette B. Hanvey Bassett, 76, of 24 Crossman Street, wife of Eugene F. Bassett, well known jeweler, died at 1 A.M. today at her home, after a lengthy illness.
She had been a resident of this city since 1906 and for about half a century was actively identified with her husband in the jewelry business where she became known and loved by those whom she served.
Born in Attica, N.Y., on Sept. 16, 1879, she was the daughter of Henry P. and Belle Lincoln Hanvey, and was married to Eugene F. Bassett on Dec. 25, 1901, in Castile, N.Y., with the Rev. Irsa B. Hudnutt officiating.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jennie Hughes of this city; a brother, Dr. C.A. Hanvey of Lakewood, and a nephew, Raymond H. Hughes of Boniwood.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church and of Mecca Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bassett was well known in the community from her long association at the jewelry store on North Main Street. She was a gentle woman, serving everyone with a personal interest, her taste having gone into the selection of many lovely bits of jewelry and silver purchased here.
Funeral services will he held at the Henderson-Lincoln Chapel at 2 P.M. Saturday with Rev. Dr. Harold A. McCurdy officiating. Burial will be at the LakeView Cemetery.
